Patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD) face many challenges when traveling, but these challenges can be minimized by pre-travel education, organization, and planning. PD nurses play an important role in helping patients on peritoneal dialysis understand that travel can continue to be a part of their lives and in helping them prepare for, plan, and organize their travel experiences.

Bobbie Knotek, BSN, RN, CNN, CPHQ, is Quality Assurance Management Coordinator, ESRD Network of Texas, Dallas TX. She is a member of ANNA’s Dallas Chapter.

Laurie Biel, BSN, RN, CNN, is a PD Staff Nurse and Co-Coordinator of the Center for Renal Education at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is a member of ANNA’s Massachusetts Bay Chapter and the PD SIG.
